The club meets every Wednesday evening, 7-9pm at Illinois Wesleyan University's Hansen Student Center in Bloomington, Illinois.
Amongst our ranks you will find professionals, students, admins, beginners, programmers, hobbyists, tinkerers and gamers, all of differing ages and walks of life.
We are all into Unix and Linux for our own reasons but realize that
the great thing about UHACC is, due to the wide range of situations and experiences present, we can all draw upon each other's strengths and perspectives to solve problems and learn new things.
At meetings you may find us discussing system setup, configuration, free/open source software, coding, Unix/Linux culture, politics, upcoming events, games, or any other topic under the sun that pertains (even in the remote) to running "that" kind of system.
You might also see at any given time subject presentations, system demonstrations hands-on workshops or live installations happening.
Interested in joining? Great! Fill out a UHACC membership application and turn it into any club officer via e-mail or bring your completed form to a meeting.
Our club, at its reorganization, voted in its official Constitution specifying broadly our purpose and how we proceed and govern ourselves as a club.
 End note: We are well aware that the pronunciation of our acronym is literally "You Hack." This was done consciously in contrast to the ridiculous "Hollywood" connotation of the malicious computer system cracker, fraudster, script kiddie, and/or evil virus-writing programmer.
The true hacker spirit embodies none of those things, but rather the creative, artistic, resourceful, problem-solving spirit that drives us to dream up better constructs, write better code, design better systems and solve complex problems.
Undoubtedly some will have the wrong idea about UHACC; some will understand perfectly and hold us in low regard anyways.
That being said, whatever anyone thinks, we just want everyone to know that yes, we are hackers;
and no, we have nothing to do with breaking into computers or otherwise spreading digital mayhem.
I hope my explanation clears the air once and for all, because hackers are some of the neatest people you'll ever meet.
I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on the opportunity because of some silly preconceived notion of what we are, or are not.
